Resort Review: Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside.

Why Our Family of Five Loves This Disney Resort

If you’re planning a Walt Disney World vacation and looking for a charming, moderate resort that blends relaxation with convenience, Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside is a fantastic choice. As a travel agent (and a mom of three!), this resort has become a family favorite for our family of five. From the relaxing pools to the convenient room layouts, Port Orleans Riverside offers a magical balance of comfort, charm, and value.

Spacious 5th Sleeper Rooms for Families

Port Orleans Riverside

Port Orleans Riverside- 5th sleeper

One of the biggest perks for larger families is that Port Orleans Riverside offers 5th sleeper rooms. Are they the largest rooms we’ve stayed in? No. But the rooms are comfortable and get the job done! The rooms are simple and not overly themed (which we like!), the beds are comfortable, and the separate vanity/tub-toilet situation is so helpful when getting ready to head out for the day. The pull-down Murphy-style bed is perfect for a child (my 12-year-old still fits!), and the overall layout allows everyone to have their own space without feeling too cramped.

Pools and Recreation: A Relaxing Retreat

When we’re not in the parks, you’ll usually find us at the Ol’ Man Island pool, which has a fun waterslide and a laid-back vibe. My kids love racing down the slide, while I appreciate the shaded areas and hot tub nearby. There are also several quiet pools scattered throughout the resort, which are perfect if you want a more peaceful swim.

Dining at Port Orleans Riverside

We were pleasantly surprised by how many great food options are available at Riverside. The Riverside Mill Food Court has something for everyone, from classic Mickey waffles to hearty entrees. Our family’s favorite breakfast option? The breakfast totchos (tater tot nachos topped with eggs, cheese, and sausage). For dinner or a late-night snack, we love ordering a whole pizza, which is not only delicious but also a cost-effective option for families who don’t want to spend a fortune feeding five hungry park-goers.

Beautiful Grounds and Relaxing Atmosphere

One of the best parts of this resort is simply walking around. Port Orleans Riverside has lush landscaping, winding pathways, and peaceful water views that make it feel like a true escape from the hustle and bustle of the theme parks. Whether you’re strolling along the river, enjoying the gardens, or taking the boat to Disney Springs, the atmosphere here is incredibly charming.

Preferred Rooms and Resort Size

It’s worth noting that Riverside is a large resort. The grounds are spread out, which means you could have a decent walk to the main pool, dining, or transportation. For families with little ones (or anyone who doesn’t want a lot of walking after long park days), I recommend booking a preferred room location. This ensures you’ll be closer to the amenities and bus stops.

Bonus: Walk to Port Orleans French Quarter

Another reason we love staying here is the easy walking path to Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter, Riverside’s sister resort. It’s a quick and scenic stroll, and once you’re there, you can indulge in the famous Mickey-shaped beignets—a must-try Disney treat!

Final Thoughts: Why Port Orleans Riverside Is a Family Favorite

For families looking for the perfect mix of space, dining options, and Disney charm, Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside is hard to beat. It’s a resort that feels like home to us—relaxing, beautiful, and practical for a family of five. Between the pools, food court favorites, and easy access to French Quarter treats, it’s a resort we’re always excited to return to.
